Referred to a “stomatologue” in France?
The term may be unfamiliar if you usually receive care abroad. In France, a stomatologist is a medical specialist who assesses conditions of the mouth and performs oral surgery. Your reason for visiting may be a wisdom tooth problem, a mouth lesion or an oral assessment requested by another doctor.

Oral surgery
If you have been referred for a difficult or impacted wisdom tooth, bring the referral and any recent dental imaging. The consultation is an opportunity to assess the tooth, discuss whether removal is needed and understand the proposed care.

Sleep care
Already being assessed for sleep apnoea? Bring your sleep-study report and details of any treatment you use. An oral appliance may be considered in suitable cases, in coordination with the clinician managing your sleep condition.

Before medical treatment
If your medical team has requested an oral infection assessment before an operation or treatment, bring their letter and the planned treatment date. The assessment looks for oral problems that may need attention as part of your wider care.

Practical answers for patients using this English guide
In France, a stomatologist is a medical specialist in conditions of the mouth and oral surgery. A dentist also diagnoses and treats dental problems and may perform extractions. Your dentist may refer you for specialist assessment when a tooth, lesion or planned procedure needs additional expertise.
Bring any referral letter, recent dental X-rays or scans, relevant medical reports, and a list of medicines and allergies. If you have documents from another country, ask the practice beforehand which records are useful and whether a translation is needed.
The stated fee for a consultation with Dr Solène Vo Quang is €150. This is the consultation fee, not a quoted price for surgery or other treatment. Before booking, ask what is included for your appointment and whether any examinations or procedures would involve separate fees.
Dr Vo Quang practises under France’s sector 2 agreement. Fees can exceed the amount used by French statutory health insurance to calculate reimbursement. For eligible patients, statutory insurance and complementary cover may reimburse part of the bill; the full €150 is not automatically covered.
Ask your insurer whether your policy covers the consultation and any proposed treatment, whether approval is required beforehand, and which documents it needs for a claim. Check your own policy before committing to care; the consultation fee does not establish what your insurer will reimburse.
If you need an English-language consultation, tell the practice when you contact it. Confirm the language arrangements for the clinician seeing you, any procedure and follow-up before booking.
Discuss your travel dates with the practice before making arrangements. A consultation does not mean that a procedure will take place the same day. Treatment planning and any review appointments depend on the findings and the care proposed. Ask when it would be appropriate to travel afterwards.
Recovery varies with the extraction and your health. Allow for discomfort, swelling and changes to eating, and ask your surgeon about work, exercise and travel. Follow the instructions given for your procedure. Our guides to food after an extraction, coffee and hot drinks and wisdom tooth stitches help you prepare for recovery.
If your dentist or doctor has referred you, bring the letter and relevant imaging. If you do not have a referral, contact the practice to check the appropriate appointment and ask your insurer whether referral requirements affect your reimbursement.
Call the practice to explain your symptoms and ask about assessment. Severe or worsening pain or swelling, a high temperature or bleeding that does not stop needs prompt clinical advice. Do not rely on a routine online booking when you need urgent help.
